Projects & Assignments
Interns participate in a number of other individual and group projects.

Clinical Case Studies
Interns choose patients they cared for during their core clinical rotations, research the patients' disease states and their nutritional implications, and write a case report paper detailing this information and the medical and nutritional care the patient received. The interns present their case studies to the clinical dietitians at the Carondelet Health Network. This experience allows them to develop their critical thinking skills and learn to consider the “whole picture” when they assess, diagnose and provide nutrition interventions for patients. Case studies also allow the interns to practice both writing and presentation skills.
Public Policy Day
Interns collaborate with students from the other internships in the Tucson area to learn about public policy in relation to nutrition and other healthcare issues. They travel to Phoenix, the capitol of Arizona, to participate in Public Policy Day in which they interact with Arizona lawmakers to discuss relevant legislation, and the role of the RDN in the management of health and disease in individuals and populations.
Southern Arizona Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Meeting
Interns work with students from other local nutrition and dietetics programs to plan and manage an in-person or virtual meeting of the Southern Arizona chapter of the Academy. This experience affords them the opportunity to meet and network with other nutrition and dietetics professionals in the Tucson area. This is particularly of value for those interns who intend to remain in Tucson after graduation.
